Squirtle Facts:
- Introduction: Squirtle is a Water-type Pokémon from Generation I. It evolves into Wartortle at level 16 and then into Blastoise at level 36.
- Appearance: This cute Pokémon looks like a small, blue turtle with big, expressive eyes and a slightly hooked upper lip. Its shell is brown on top and pale yellow underneath.
- Abilities: Squirtle can retreat into its shell for protection and rest. Its shell’s streamlined shape helps it swim efficiently.
- Habitat: While rare in the wild, Squirtle can be found near small ponds and lakes. In the anime, they often live on secluded islands with their evolutionary relatives.
- Anime Appearances: Ash’s Squirtle was once the leader of the Squirtle Squad, a group of troublemakers. It later joined Ash’s team and became one of his trusted Pokémon.
- Design Inspiration: Squirtle’s design is inspired by baby turtles and its final evolution. Its tail is a nod to the Japanese legend of the minogame, a turtle with a seaweed tail that lives for 10,000 years.
- Name Origin: The name “Squirtle” combines “squirt” (to spray water) and “turtle.”
- Popularity: Squirtle is one of the original starter Pokémon in Pokémon Red, Green, Blue, FireRed, and LeafGreen, alongside Bulbasaur and Charmander.
- Special Features: Squirtle can accurately spray foamy water from its mouth. It’s also a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
- International Names: Squirtle is known by different names in various languages:
- German: Schiggy
- Spanish: Squirtle
- French: Carapuce
- Italian: Squirtle
- Japanese: Zenigame (ゼニガメ)
